The initiative provides staff with the tools and knowledge to assist students more holistically, improve workflows, and foster collaboration among departments.

Why Cross-Training?

Cross-training within student services is key to:

In celebration of HSI Week, we are proud to offer the Raíces Student Services Cross-Training presentation. The presentation is designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of staff working in student services, particularly within Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs). Our goal is to foster collaboration across departments and provide holistic support to our diverse student population.

The Raíces Program is committed to supporting Hispanic and underrepresented students by offering targeted academic advising, culturally relevant programming, and fostering a sense of community. Our cross-training program is an extension of this mission, aiming to equip student services professionals with the knowledge and skills to provide culturally sensitive and effective support.

Basic Needs coordinators are vital to a student's overall success by ensuring they have access to essential resources such as food, housing, healthcare, transportation, and financial assistance and plays a role in student advocacy and outreach awareness.
